Rev. Anthony Walker

Pastor of the St. John Christian Methodist Episcopal Church

Pastor Anthony L. Walker, Sr. is a great leader, scholar, preacher and patriarch of St. John CME Church . He is a strong believer in prayer. He teaches that prayer is the key that gives us a direct line of communication to our Father in heaven. He instructs that the power of prayer results in healing, deliverance, salvation, and so much more. Pastor Walker’s focus for 2013-2014 is Prayer, Praise and Power.

Pastor Walker was reared in Boley, Oklahoma where his father, the late Rev. John P. Walker, was a mentor and example of the conduct of a church leader. Pastor Walker was raised in the Christian Methodist Episcopal denomination attending Lane Chapel CME in Boley and later Arbeka CME in Okemah, Oklahoma. He was also an associate member of Sykes CME in Oklahoma City. While working in these churches, he is known for developing rigorous Bible study curriculum and being a great Sunday school teacher.

The Leader

When Pastor Walker accepted his call to the ministry in 1984. He received his first pastoral assignment at Lane Chapel CME Church, Chandler, Oklahoma. He was the Shepherd of that house from 1986-1998. He was appointed to St. John CME Church, Spencer, Oklahoma in July, 1998.

Pastor Walker has enhanced the ministry of evangelism with his “Tithers in the Community” rally cry for members to invite someone to attend church with them. Also, he promoted the development of an increased ministerial staff by adding a prison ministry, mobile meals program, and media ministry in an effort to reach those that do not know Jesus Christ and to meet the physical needs of the Spencer community and surrounding areas. Pastor Walker holds several lead positions in the CME church and community. He serves as the Dean of Leadership Training School for Oklahoma City District, Vice President of the CME Ministers Alliance, and serves on the committee for the CME Oklahoma Region Ministerial Examinations Board. He served on the planning commission for City of Spencer for nine years, is a past and present member of NAACP and he is co-chair of the Oklahoma City Branch Committee of Ministry and Membership. He is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

The Scholar

Pastor Anthony L. Walker, Sr. earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science and History. He continued his journey by receiving a Master’s in Guidance Counseling from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Master’s of Arts in Divinity from Oral Roberts University.

The Preacher

Pastor Walker has preached in various cities across the country including Tecumseh, Washington, Indianapolis, Indiana and his hometown of Boley, Oklahoma. He tells a descriptive story that resonates with all generations. He lives the gospel of Jesus Christ and delivers the message abroad. In 2012 he received the prestigious “Outstanding Ministry of The Year” award during the 16th Pastors Conference held in Atlanta Georgia.

The Patriarch

Pastor Walker is a dedicated husband and father who is married to Mrs. Earlene Walker. Mrs. Walker is a retired mathematics teacher in the Oklahoma City Public School system. She is an excellent helpmate to her husband, a loving and supportive grandmother, speaker, mentor, and motivator for the members of St. John CME. Together, Reverend and Mrs. Walker share in all facets of ministry. They have five beautiful children and eight vivacious grandchildren. The entire family is committed to kingdom building and their dedication to giving and helping others is unwavering.
